The meeting, which was attended by Undersecretary of the Ministry of Transport for Maritime Affairs and Ports Captain Ali Al-Subhi and Acting CEO of the General Authority for Maritime Affairs, Captain Yeslam Mubarak, reviewed the measures taken by the Central Bank to transfer the operations centers of commercial banks to Aden, as well as the Ministry of Transport’s recent measures to transfer the revenues of Yemenia Airlines to the Central Bank in Aden or to the company’s accounts abroad.

The Minister of Transport confirmed that these decisions are organizational and technical decisions that come in implementation of the republican decree to transfer all ministries, agencies and government institutions to the temporary capital Aden, to protect these institutions and commercial banks from the control and seizure of the funds and assets by the Houthi terrorist militia, as well as to stop the deterioration of the local currency against foreign exchange rates, and the economic deterioration in general.

The meeting also addressed the obstacles imposed by the Houthi militia as a result of the separation of the country’s monetary policy and their refusal to deal with the local currency printed by the Central Bank of Yemen in Aden, as well as the freezing of Yemenia Airlines’ balances in March 2023, which exceed one hundred million dollars, and finally targeting ships on international shipping lines and what resulted from it of raising the costs of shipping fees and charges, and the risks of water and marine environmental pollution by sinking the ship “Rubimar”, in addition to throwing the country into a spiral of multiple economic crises that have pushed the government into a complex economic situation that prompted the brothers in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates to support the state’s budget deficit to fulfill its obligations towards the people.

The Minister explained that the Ministry has made great efforts to open the frozen balances, to enable Yemenia Airlines to benefit from them in enhancing the coverage of operating expenses and expanding and modernizing its fleet, in addition to protecting the company’s assets and resources, as it is a national company that serves all members of the Yemeni community. He called on the international envoy and all parties concerned with the international community to support these decisions and directions of the legitimate government, as it is the official and legal body concerned with managing the country’s affairs.

For his part, the Economic Advisor to the UN Envoy to Yemen stressed that the United Nations and the international envoy are keen to support all possible efforts to contribute to exploiting economic opportunities to improve the conditions of the people and bring stability and peace to Yemen.
