Aden, Yemen – Prime Minister Dr. Ahmed Awad bin Mubarak emphasized the collective responsibility at all levels of the state and government to improve economic performance. This improvement should be achieved through a comprehensive and implementable plan, adaptable to current economic variables. He stressed the need to take all necessary measures, guided by a clear and realistic vision, to address the humanitarian and living conditions of citizens and determine the optimal path for reforming the current situation.
This statement was made during the Prime Minister’s chairmanship of a meeting of the Technical Committee tasked with reviewing the Economic Rescue Plan, held on Wednesday in the temporary capital, Aden.
The committee, chaired by Deputy Finance Minister Hani Wahab, presented observations from ministries and government agencies regarding the Economic Rescue Plan. These observations aim to refine the plan for implementability and achievement of its objectives in supporting short-term economic stability. This will be achieved by containing the budget deficit, stabilizing the exchange rate, curbing inflation, supporting the private sector, and restoring service delivery, with a primary focus on electricity.
The meeting discussed potential implementation pathways for the plan and aspects that could be incorporated to further develop it. This development would consider existing challenges on the ground and define responsibilities at various levels. The Technical Committee, having already held several technical meetings for this purpose, was tasked with finalizing the observations for discussion with the economic team. This paves the way for the plan’s approval and implementation.
The Prime Minister highlighted the government’s commitment, with the support and supervision of the Presidential Leadership Council, to translate the Economic Rescue Plan into actionable plans. This will follow discussions and incorporation of feedback received, including securing necessary funding from Yemen’s development partners. He emphasized that the state and government, across all entities at central and local levels, are working as one system to overcome economic challenges and alleviate citizens’ suffering caused by the ongoing war waged by the Houthi terrorist militia against the Yemeni people.
