Aden, Yemen – The second Humanitarian Coordination Forum convened on Wednesday in the temporary capital, Aden, chaired by Deputy Minister of Planning and International Cooperation, Dr. Nizar Basoheib, with the participation of the Deputy Humanitarian Coordinator for the United Nations in Yemen, Diego Zorrilla.
The meeting brought together representatives from government bodies and agencies, UN organizations, civil society organizations, and heads of parliamentary blocs partnering in humanitarian work within liberated governorates. They addressed several key issues, including: outcomes of the first forum, ways to empower humanitarian efforts through local and governmental institutions, and mechanisms for monitoring, follow-up, and evaluation of governmental and non-governmental organizations’ interventions in implementing various projects, particularly multi-sectoral ones.
During the meeting, the Deputy Minister of Planning highlighted that the forum aims to improve current humanitarian efforts by identifying positive practices that contribute to better outcomes and project effectiveness. He emphasized the need to establish new working mechanisms to enhance performance across various sectors in the coming phase. He also stressed adopting optimal methods for utilizing funds allocated to projects, rationalizing expenditures where possible, and addressing challenges faced by international, local, and government organizations regarding humanitarian work to facilitate a smooth transition from humanitarian to development-focused activities.
The Deputy Humanitarian Coordinator for Yemen affirmed the commitment of UN agencies and humanitarian partners in Yemen to implement long-term projects and achieve developmental reforms despite challenges posed by funding shortages. He underscored the importance of strengthening collaboration with all international partners to provide further support to Yemen.
