Media Analysis

International, Arab, and local media covered the Yemeni file in all its political, humanitarian, military, economic, etc. aspects. The political media covered The Yemeni Ansarullah group threating to escalate against Israel in response to the Al-Mawasi massacre, which resulted in hundreds of Palestinian deaths and injuries. The US Central Command reiterated that the Ansarullah group’s targeting of international shipping in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden is “reckless behavior that threatens regional stability and endangers the lives of mariners”. As for the humanitarian aspect, it witnessed widespread coverage due to the worsening humanitarian crisis, as local authorities in Yemen’s Marib governorate have stated that the region is facing its worst humanitarian crisis in nine years. Marib is currently home to approximately 60 percent of the country’s internally displaced persons (IDPs), exceeding 4.5 million displaced individuals. The military aspect also witnessed broader media coverage than in previous weeks, as the military media covered, the US military saying on Tuesday that the Ansarullah group attacked a Greek-owned, Liberian-flagged oil tanker, the “Chios Lion”, in the Red Sea, causing damage. The US Central Command added that the Ansarullah group launched several attacks on the tanker ” BENTLEY I,” a Panama-flagged vessel owned by Israel and operated by Monaco in the Red Sea.
