Media Analysis
International, Arab, and local media covered the Yemeni file in all its political, humanitarian, military, economic, etc. aspects. The political media highlighted the Yemeni “Ansar Allah” group’s confirmation on Sunday that any agreement that might result from the negotiations between the “Hamas” movement and Israel to cease fire in the Gaza Strip will not prevent a military response to the bombing of the port of Hodeidah. The humanitarian aspect witnessed widespread coverage due to the worsening humanitarian crisis, as a comprehensive report released on Sunday by the United Nations (UN) unveiled a severe escalation in acute malnutrition rates among children under five in areas controlled by the “internationally recognized” government of Yemen. The military aspect also witnessed broader media coverage than in previous weeks, as the leader of the Ansar Allah group (Houthis), Abdul-Malik al-Houthi, said on Thursday that the group had carried out 21 military operations over the past week using ballistic and cruise missiles, drones, and naval vessels. Earlier, Greek-flagged oil tanker Sounion traveling through the Red Sea came under repeated attack Wednesday, leaving the vessel “not under command” and drifting ablaze after an assault suspected to have been carried out by Yemen’s Ansarullah group (Houthis), the British military said.
