His Excellency President Dr. Rashad Mohammed Al-Alimi, President of the Presidential Leadership Council (PLC), along with Sheikh Othman Mujalli, the Council member, received yesterday, Thursday at the Ma’ashiq Presidential Palace, Mr. Hans Grundberg, the United Nations Special Envoy to Yemen.

The president and the member of the Presidential Leadership Council were briefed by the UN envoy on the outcomes of his recent communications at the national, regional and international levels. Furthermore, the UN envoy briefed the president and Sheikh Mujalli on his future priorities for de-escalation and reviving the political process, against the Iran- backed Houthi terrorist militias coup.

During the meeting, the UN envoy extended his heartfelt condolences to His Excellency the President for the victims of the floods and torrential rains that have affected several Yemeni governorates in recent weeks.

Mr. Grundberg expressed his thanks and deep appreciation to the Presidential Leadership Council and the government for their efforts aimed at de-escalating on all tracks. Additionally, he thanked the efforts aimed at engaging responsibly with all initiatives to prevent the country from going back to full-scale war.

President Al-Alimi, on his own behalf, the Council members and the government, reiterated full support for the UN’s efforts to launch a comprehensive political process based on the roadmap proposed by our brothers in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. In addition to their commendable efforts to improve living conditions exacerbated by the terrorist attacks of the Houthi militias on oil facilities and international shipping lines, with the support of the Iranian regime.

The President stressed the importance of keeping local, regional and international attention on the Houthi militias’ practices, including the grave violations of human rights and the militias’ arbitrary measures against the Yemeni Airlines Company that would further exacerbate Yemeni people’s humanitarian suffering and damage the company’s assets and its maritime reputation.

The president of the Presidential Leadership Council pointed out that that the failed terrorist attempt by the Houthi militias targeting the Safer oil facility is the latest evidence that these militias are not a reliable partner for peace. But rather a project of destruction and chaos that put the interests of their supporters above Yemeni people’s interest.

The President stressed the importance of maintaining the international community’s unity about the Yemeni issue. Additionally, he stressed that it is very important to listen to the Yemeni people’s aspirations for stability and peace in accordance with relevant UN Security Council’s resolutions, especially resolution 2216.

The meeting was attended by Dr. Abdulsalam Hamid, Minister of Transport, Major General Saleh Al-Maqaleh, the Director of the Office of the President of the Presidential Leadership Council and a number of officials from the Ministry of Transport, the Civil Aviation Authority, and Yemen Airways.
