On Wednesday, His Excellency President Dr. Rashad Mohammed Al-Alimi, President of the Presidential Leadership Council, received Mr. Steven Fagin, the Ambassador of the United States of America to Yemen.

The meeting touched upon the latest developments in the Yemeni situation, including the continued terrorist escalation by the Iran-backed Houthi militias and their serious violations of human rights.

The President of the Presidential Leadership Council was briefed by the American ambassador on the outcomes of the recent diplomatic communications aimed at de-escalating tensions in Yemen and the region. His Excellency was also briefed on the available options to push the Houthi militias to engage seriously with regional and international efforts to alleviate the suffering of the Yemeni people and halt their destructive actions against what remains of state institutions.

The meeting touched on coordinated efforts with the international community to release United Nations staff and civil society leaders abducted by the Houthi militias. In addition, the meeting addressed development interventions including protecting human heritage in Yemen.

The President of the Presidential Leadership Council reiterated the Council’s and government commitment to a just peace based on the nationally, regionally, and internationally agreed-upon references, particularly Resolution 2216. Moreover, he stressed the importance of integrating all efforts in this regard with those of our brothers in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to launch a comprehensive political process under the auspices of the United Nations.

The President praised the valuable efforts of the U.S. in alleviating Yemeni people’s humanitarian suffering and strengthening international mechanisms to intercept Iranian arms shipments that destabilize international peace and security.
