Prime Minister Dr. Ahmed Awad bin Mubarak inspected, on Saturday, the site of the wind power generation project in the Qa’wah coastal area of Al-Buraiqah Directorate in Aden Governorate. The project is set to be funded by the sisterly United Arab Emirates, as part of the sustainable solutions the government is working on within its strategic vision to find sustainable solutions for the electricity issue and alleviate the suffering of the citizens.

The Prime Minister, accompanied by the Presidential Leadership Council’s Advisor for Defense and Security Affairs, Lieutenant General Mahmoud Al-Subaihi, listened to explanations from the Minister of Electricity and Energy, Engineer Manea bin Yameen, and the General Director of the Public Electricity Corporation, Mujib Al-Shaabi, about what has been accomplished in determining the site for the wind power station. This station is planned to generate 100 megawatts over an area of 28 square kilometers, with ongoing communications with the brothers in the UAE to sign an agreement for starting the implementation. They pointed out the ministry’s plan, under the directives of the Prime Minister, to enhance communication with brothers and friends for expanding renewable energy projects following the success achieved in the solar power stations in Aden and Mukalla, and upcoming projects in this field, which will contribute to fundamentally addressing the electricity problem.

Dr. Ahmed Awad bin Mubarak directed the Ministry of Electricity and the Public Electricity Corporation to accelerate the necessary steps to begin implementing this vital and strategic project. He expressed his gratitude and appreciation to the brothers in the United Arab Emirates for their generous support to the renewable energy sector in Yemen, following the success in establishing the first electricity generation system through solar energy, which started in Mukalla and Aden, and the keenness to expand this experience in Hadhramaut, Taiz, Shabwa, Al-Dhale, and other governorates.

The Prime Minister renewed his call to Yemen’s development partners among countries and donor organizations to support the government in utilizing Yemen’s high potential for generating electricity from renewable energy sources, namely solar, wind, and geothermal energy. This support will help in providing radical solutions to the electricity issue, which is crucial firstly to alleviate citizens’ suffering, and secondly as a vital investment for sustainable development now and in the future.
