Prime Minister Dr. Ahmed Awad bin Mubarak held a meeting on Wednesday with the leadership of the Ministry of Interior and the general directors of police in the liberated provinces. The meeting was dedicated to discussing the security situation and ways to enhance the performance of security apparatuses to contribute to crime reduction, counter-terrorism, and stability enhancement.
The meeting focused on developing coordination between various security agencies, improving tools for counter-terrorism and combating organized crime, fighting smuggling, and assisting relevant authorities in executing tasks aimed at controlling economic crimes including currency speculation and foreign currency smuggling. It also addressed the needs for enhancing performance efficiency to meet international, regional, and domestic challenges and risks.
At the beginning of the meeting, the Prime Minister conveyed greetings from His Excellency the President of the Presidential Leadership Council and its members to the leadership of the Ministry of Interior and all its affiliates and security agencies, expressing their appreciation for the efforts made to maintain security and stability despite the difficult circumstances faced at various levels. He emphasized the government’s keenness to improve conditions and overcome challenges facing the security apparatus, considering this among its priorities.
He directed the Ministry of Public Health and Population to treat security personnel injured while performing their national duty at the state’s expense and to provide necessary care for them, emphasizing the care for families of national duty martyrs.
Dr. Ahmed Awad bin Mubarak highlighted the pivotal role of the security institution in achieving the government’s five main priorities, stating that no resource development or reforms can be discussed without an active role from the security agencies. He stressed the importance of responsible engagement by the security institution with judicial orders as they are tasked with enforcing the rule of law and protecting it.
The Prime Minister also emphasized the importance of proceeding with reforms in the security sectors as part of the requirements for the security system, alongside developing their capabilities to fulfill their duties in a manner consistent with accountability, transparency, and respect for human rights principles. He pointed out the need for attention to training and rehabilitation programs and improving the conditions of security institution personnel across different ranks.
During the meeting, the Minister of Interior and several police leaderships from the provinces spoke about the efforts made to implement the security deployment map and achieve stability despite the challenging conditions, committing to the directives given by the Prime Minister to overcome the existing challenges. They confirmed their commitment to addressing and correcting financial and administrative discrepancies within the government’s approach to reforms and strengthening the security capabilities of the agencies.
The meeting approved the formation of a joint committee from the Ministries of Interior and Finance and the Prime Minister’s office to address all financial and administrative challenges discussed, as well as the security agencies’ needs, and to submit necessary proposals for adoption.
