In Washington DC, the capital of the United States, Finance Minister Salem bin Buraik discussed with the UK Minister of State for Development, Anneliese Dodds, issues of mutual cooperation, aspects of government support, and enhancing the performance and systems of economic institutions.
The Finance Minister praised the British support, particularly in terms of enhancing and building institutional capacities. He reviewed the developments in the economic situation and the pressures and complexities the public finance is facing due to the economic war launched by the terrorist Houthi militia, supported by the Iranian regime, emphasizing the importance of placing the economy at the top of the priorities for regional and global partners as the main gateway to the peace process and alleviating human suffering.
Minister bin Buraik highlighted the importance of designing special programs within international financial institutions that accommodate the challenges and realities of countries in conflict, enabling them to access developmental financing, and not restricting support to the technical aspect alone.
On her part, the UK Minister affirmed her government’s commitment to supporting Yemen politically, economically, and humanely, and acknowledged the United Kingdom’s understanding of the economic challenges Yemen is witnessing, expressing their eagerness to formulate initiatives that cater to countries in conflict and respond to their needs.
