Prime Minister Dr. Ahmed Awad Bin Mubarak has adopted a comprehensive strategy for capacity building at the Coast Guard Authority. This strategy includes advanced training plans and modern equipment to enhance its readiness and capability to protect Yemen’s coasts and islands, and to combat various threats in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden.
This was during a meeting with His Excellency the Prime Minister on Sunday in the interim capital, Aden, with Major General Khaled Al-Qamali, the head of the Coast Guard Authority, who briefed him on the objectives of the strategy and the role it is expected to play in strengthening the Coast Guard’s capabilities to protect territorial waters and combat smuggling in all its forms.
Dr. Ahmed Awad Bin Mubarak expressed his hope for support from the brothers in the coalition led by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, along with Yemen’s partners in brotherly and friendly countries to support the implementation of the strategy and to bolster the government’s efforts in enhancing maritime security and the capabilities and efficiency of the workers, given Yemen’s strategic location and its importance for the security and stability of the region and the protection of international shipping lanes. He instructed the Minister of Interior to work with the Coast Guard Authority’s leadership to implement the strategy and achieve its intended objectives.
The meeting reviewed the status of the Coast Guard forces and the efforts being made to enhance and develop their performance, the achievements they have made, and the steps currently being implemented to elevate their security and operational performance to protect territorial waters.
The Prime Minister emphasized the importance of enhancing international cooperation and partnerships to support the capabilities of the Coast Guard in facing challenges, highlighting the vital role of the Yemeni Coast Guard in protecting ports, coasts, and territorial waters.
