During his meeting on Tuesday with Stephen Hickey, Director of the Middle East and North Africa Department at the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office, Sheikh Othman Mujalli, a member of the Presidential Leadership Council, clarified that the primary goal of the Council is peace and the restoration of state institutions.
He emphasized the necessity of confronting terrorism and designating the Houthi militia as a terrorist group, as well as isolating Iran due to its role in exporting terrorism and weapons to Yemen and the region, in order to achieve the peace sought by the Yemeni people, the region, and the world. He highlighted the importance of strengthening the role of the state and its institutions economically and politically, and adopting a joint strategy with regional and international partners for cooperation in various fields.
Mujalli also appreciated the support provided by friends in the United Kingdom for enhancing Yemen’s coast guard capabilities, capacity building, humanitarian and relief aid, as well as the supportive political stances towards the Presidential Leadership Council and the Yemeni people.
For his part, Stephen Hickey valued the efforts exerted by the Presidential Leadership Council and the government towards establishing peace, noting his country’s keenness on Yemen’s safety, stability, development, and the protection of maritime routes in the Red Sea and the Strait of Bab al-Mandeb.
