On Friday, Dr. Abdullah Al-Alimi, a member of the Presidential Leadership Council, along with his accompanying delegation, concluded his participation in the activities of the Climate Summit (COP29) held in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan.
Dr. Al-Alimi delivered Yemen’s speech at the summit, during which he reviewed the negative impacts of climate change on Yemen, including damages from tropical cyclones, drought, and rising sea levels, which exacerbate the fragility of the country’s environmental and economic resources.
He also participated in several side events and roundtable discussions, including sessions on transitioning to renewable energy and enabling climate finance, where he called for financial and technical support for Yemen to address climate change challenges and enhance sustainable development strategies.
He announced the launch of the National Climate Finance Program 2025-2030 to bolster Yemen’s response to climate challenges, in the presence of representatives from international organizations, government sectors involved, civil society, and the private sector.
During the summit, Dr. Al-Alimi held a series of meetings with various state leaders and international officials, discussing ways to enhance joint cooperation in facing climate repercussions, and coordinating efforts to secure the necessary international funding to support Yemen’s vital sectors affected by climate issues.
Concluding his series of meetings, Dr. Al-Alimi met with governmental entities, Yemeni organizations, and actors in international, regional, private, and banking sectors, emphasizing the importance of collective efforts for the service of Yemen. He stressed the significance of every Yemeni voice, regardless of the represented entity, as everyone represents greater Yemen. He expressed gratitude to the entities and organizations that contributed to funding Yemeni participation in such important international forums during these challenging times in our country.
Dr. Al-Alimi congratulated the Republic of Azerbaijan, its leadership, government, and people, on the successful hosting of the summit, commending their efforts in enhancing international cooperation to face climate challenges.
