On Sunday, Major General Sultan Al-Arada, a member of the Presidential Leadership Council and Governor of Marib, met with the head of the operations of the International Committee of the Red Cross mission in Yemen, Freya Rady. They discussed the interventions and projects of the Committee, possibilities for their expansion, and ways to enhance humanitarian partnership with the Committee in the upcoming period.
During the meeting, the member of the Presidential Leadership Council praised the role of the International Committee of the Red Cross and its humanitarian interventions which have covered various essential sectors, in addition to its previous roles in prisoner exchange operations that took place in our country over the years.
He called on the Committee to take on a greater role in completing the achievement of a deal to exchange all prisoners and abductees according to the principle of “all for all,” in addition to having a Red Cross team visit the detainees in Houthi prisons to check on their humanitarian and health conditions, provide necessary support, and enable them to communicate with their families.
The member of the Presidential Leadership Council welcomed the International Committee of the Red Cross’s intentions to expand its humanitarian interventions in the liberated provinces in general, and in Marib province in particular, considering that it hosts over 60% of the displaced people in our country.
He stressed the necessity for humanitarian partners to focus on implementing sustainable development-oriented projects that alleviate the suffering of citizens and contribute to achieving recovery.
From her side, Freya Rady, the head of operations of the International Committee of the Red Cross in Yemen, appreciated the support provided by Major General Sultan Al-Arada, the member of the Presidential Leadership Council and Governor of Marib, to facilitate the execution of the Committee’s interventions and humanitarian works, and his commitment to enhancing the humanitarian partnership with the Committee in Marib province and at the national level.
She briefed the member of the Presidential Leadership Council, Major General Al-Arada, on the outcomes of her meetings with several ministers in the government to discuss partnership on numerous humanitarian files the Committee is involved in in Yemen, noting that her visit to Marib province aims to review the Committee’s projects and interventions, evaluate them, and explore the possibility of their expansion according to the priorities of the local authority.
