Dr. Shaya’ Al-Zindani, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, participated on Monday in the meeting of foreign ministers from Non-Aligned Movement countries, held on the sidelines of the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

In Yemen’s speech delivered at the meeting, the Minister renewed the government’s support for all efforts and endeavors leading to achieving a just and comprehensive peace based on the agreed references, primarily UN Security Council Resolution 2216.

He pointed out that peace remains elusive, and the suffering of the Yemeni people is exacerbated by the Houthi militias’ intransigence and their ongoing economic war against the government and the Yemeni people. He noted that the Houthi militias are evading peace obligations towards military escalation in the Red Sea and Bab el-Mandeb, threatening the safety of international navigation, the marine environment, and international peace and security, reflecting the nature of these militias as a group that does not believe in peace and disregards the devastating consequences of these actions on the marine environment in general and the economic and humanitarian situation in Yemen.

The Foreign Minister affirmed that external support for the rebellious Houthi militias is one of the main reasons for prolonging the humanitarian crisis and the suffering of the Yemeni people. He renewed the call for adherence to the ten principles of “Bandung” established by the founding fathers, upon which the Non-Aligned Movement was built, especially the principle of non-interference in the internal affairs of states and respect for their sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Regarding the Palestinian issue, Minister Al-Zindani stressed the need to mobilize efforts and unify positions to pressure Israel to end its war in Gaza and aggressions in the West Bank, and to establish a peace process that restores to the Palestinian people their inalienable rights to freedom and independence, including the establishment of their sovereign state on the borders of June 4, 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital. He also praised the UN General Assembly’s adoption of a resolution supporting the advisory opinion of the International Court of Justice to end the illegal presence in the occupied Palestinian territories within twelve months.
