The chargé d’affaires of the Yemeni embassy in Bulgaria, Ambassador Ahmed Shammar, discussed on Friday with the head of the Middle East and Africa Department at the Bulgarian Foreign Ministry, Ambassador Roman Petrov, the bilateral relations between the two friendly countries and ways to enhance and develop them, along with developments in Yemen and the region.
Ambassador Shammar expressed the appreciation of the Yemeni government and people for Bulgaria’s consistent stance in supporting the legitimate government and its efforts to restore the state in accordance with international legitimacy resolutions. He praised the humanitarian support provided by the Bulgarian government to overcome the significant humanitarian and economic challenges caused by the Houthi militia’s war.
Shammar affirmed Yemen’s solidarity, government and people, with the Bulgarian government, people, and the family of the two Bulgarian hostages kidnapped by the Houthi militias nearly a year ago aboard the ship “Galaxy Leader,” and the militias’ refusal of calls from the international community, the Security Council, the European Union, and the Bulgarian government for their release, considering them and all crew members as civilian citizens. He pointed out that this act contradicts international agreements and conventions, as well as the values and principles of the Yemeni people, representing a hostile behavior and a terrorist crime condemned by international charters. He noted that these actions add to the series of crimes committed by the Houthi militias against the Yemeni people and their interests and relations with other peoples.
On his part, the Bulgarian official confirmed his country’s support for the efforts of the UN envoy to Yemen and the international community to achieve permanent and just peace in accordance with the resolutions of international legitimacy.
