On Friday, Yemen’s ambassador in Vienna, Haitham Shujauddin, discussed with the Austrian Foreign Ministry’s Head of the Human Rights Department, Ambassador Ulrike Putzich, areas of cooperation between the two countries in the field of human rights.

Ambassador Shujauddin handed over to the Austrian official a statement from the Ministry of Legal Affairs and Human Rights regarding the abduction and disappearance of more than 70 employees and activists from UN agencies and international organizations operating in areas under Houthi militia control.

Ambassador Shujauddin emphasized the importance of Austria’s support for Yemen’s stance calling for an end to the series of violations and breaches committed by the Houthi militias against the Yemeni people and representatives of international organizations. He praised the adoption by the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva of a resolution presented by the sisterly United Arab Emirates on behalf of the Arab Group, regarding the provision of technical assistance and capacity building for the National Commission, which will enhance the Commission’s role in this field.

He also stressed the importance of providing all necessary technical and logistical support to the National Commission of Inquiry based on the content of the resolution.

On her part, the Austrian official stressed the necessity of activating international human rights standards and not accepting any human rights violations.
