On Wednesday, Defense Minister Major General Mohsen Al-Daeri received the European Union ambassadors to Yemen in the temporary capital, Aden, to discuss the latest developments on the Yemeni scene.
The meeting, attended by EU Ambassador Gabriel Munuera, French Ambassador Catherine Cormon, German Ambassador Hubert Jäger, Dutch Ambassador Jeen Sieben, Romanian Ambassador George Maior, and Greek Ambassador Alex Poulos, discussed the overall situation on the battlefronts, the continued smuggling of weapons to the Houthi terrorist militia, their targeting of international shipping lanes in the Red Sea and Bab el-Mandeb, and its impact on the peace process in Yemen.
The Defense Minister reiterated that the security of maritime shipping lanes is contingent upon supporting the capabilities of the armed forces to extend their control over the entire national territory and end the Houthi threats lurking against the freedom of navigation. He pointed out that this is the quickest path to restoring stability in Yemen and the region.
The Defense Minister stated that there are vigorous efforts being made by the High Military Security Committee and the leadership of the Ministry of Defense to unify all military formations under a single command. He highlighted that the Joint Operations Authority is making significant efforts to coordinate, cooperate, and unify efforts among all military formations.
Major General Al-Daeri noted that international agreements and pressures have restrained the legitimate forces from completing the restoration of state institutions, affirming that peace unsettles the Houthis, and war is the primary factor for their survival amid widespread public unrest and discontent in areas under their control.
