On Thursday, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Dr. Shaye Al-Zindani, met with the Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council, Jassim Al-Badawi, to discuss developments on the national scene, the economic and development challenges facing the government, and a number of issues of common interest.
Minister Al-Zindani highly valued the honorable positions of the Gulf Cooperation Council towards Yemen and its support for the Presidential Leadership Council, and his appreciation for all development, relief and humanitarian interventions provided by the Gulf Cooperation Council for the Yemeni people.
The two sides reviewed the latest developments in Yemen, the impact of the Houthi operations in the Red Sea on the regional and global economic conditions, and the international and UN efforts to resolve the Yemeni issue, emphasizing the importance of the joint ministerial meeting of the foreign ministers of the GCC countries and the Republic of Yemen, which will be held on Sunday, June 11, 2024, in the Qatari capital, Doha, to contribute to advancing the process of security and stability for the Yemeni people.
The Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council congratulated Dr. Shaye Al-Zindani on his appointment as Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Affairs, wishing him success in performing his duties. He also affirmed what was stated in the statement of the Supreme Council of the Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf in its 44th session (December 2023 – Doha), which included full support for the Presidential Leadership Council headed by His Excellency Dr. Rashad Muhammad Al-Alimi, and the supporting entities to achieve security and stability in Yemen.
The Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council renewed the support of the Cooperation Council for all efforts aimed at reaching a comprehensive political solution to the Yemeni crisis, in accordance with the three references represented by the Gulf Initiative and its executive mechanism, the outcomes of the Comprehensive National Dialogue Conference, and Security Council Resolution 2216 to achieve security and stability in Yemen.
