The Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Dr. Badr Abdelatty, has reaffirmed the Arab Republic of Egypt’s support for legitimacy in Yemen and the independence of its state institutions. He also reiterated Egypt’s firm support for Yemen’s unity, independence, and territorial integrity.
During his meeting in Washington with the US Special Envoy for Yemen, Tim Lenderking, the Egyptian Foreign Minister pointed out that the security and stability of Yemen, as well as the Red Sea file and the safety of maritime navigation in it, represent a top priority for Egyptian national security, the security of the Arab region, and the Red Sea region. He clarified the direct link between the security of the Red Sea and stability in the Horn of Africa.
The official spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Tamim Khalaf, said in a statement that Minister Abdelatty stressed during the meeting Egypt’s support for all efforts aimed at reaching a comprehensive political solution to the Yemeni crisis, in accordance with the Gulf initiative and its executive mechanisms, the outcomes of the Comprehensive National Dialogue Conference, and Security Council Resolution 2216, in a way that meets the aspirations of the brotherly Yemeni people and ends their humanitarian suffering.
The Egyptian Foreign Minister also stressed the importance of the international community playing its role in mitigating the worsening humanitarian crisis suffered by the Yemeni people and providing the necessary support to finance the United Nations relief programs in Yemen. He pointed out Egypt’s support for the relevant UN efforts and highlighted Egyptian efforts to provide various aspects of support to the Yemeni people, especially in the field of providing medical and food aid.
