Salem bin Buraik, the Finance Minister, met with the U.S. Special Envoy to Yemen, Tim Lenderking, in Washington DC, the capital of the United States.
During the meeting, they discussed the latest developments in public finance, the repercussions of the economic war launched by the terrorist Houthi militia on the Yemeni people, and aspects of joint work to address the ongoing economic crisis.
The Finance Minister clarified that the economic war has effects and repercussions on citizens comparable to those of military warfare, emphasizing that the current priority is to support public finance, mitigate the effects of currency depreciation, and maintain the stability of institutions and services.
Minister bin Buraik praised the U.S. humanitarian and technical support, affirming that the economy represents the primary gateway to addressing the humanitarian crisis in Yemen, which has escalated due to the Houthi militia’s attacks in the Red Sea, resulting in supply chain disruptions, as well as the militia’s violations against organizations and relief workers, leading to the disruption of many vital programs.
For his part, the U.S. Envoy confirmed his government’s commitment to supporting the Yemeni government and its keenness on enhancing its performance and stabilizing the economic situation.
