The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Dr. Shaya’ Al-Zindani, met on Wednesday in the temporary capital Aden with the United Nations Resident Coordinator for Yemen, Julien Harneis, to discuss issues related to the humanitarian, relief, and development situations.
During the meeting, which was attended by the Head of the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) in Yemen, Markus Werne, the two sides discussed areas of cooperation and coordination between the government and the United Nations. This pertained particularly to efforts to mobilize resources to address the damage caused by floods that swept through a number of governorates, in addition to humanitarian, relief, and development fields, and other related areas that would contribute to alleviating the suffering of citizens in all governorates.
The Foreign Minister stressed the importance of protecting humanitarian workers, affirming the government’s keenness to enhance cooperation and coordination with the United Nations and its agencies. This aims to ensure the delivery of humanitarian assistance and the implementation of development programs in all regions of Yemen most in need.
For his part, the UN Resident Coordinator praised the coordination efforts with the government to alleviate humanitarian suffering and enhance opportunities for sustainable development solutions that serve citizens across Yemeni governorates.
