Dr. Abdullah Al-Alimi, a member of the Presidential Leadership Council, met on Thursday with His Excellency President Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan, as part of his participation in the World Leaders’ Climate Summit held within the framework of the 29th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29).

At the beginning of the meeting, Dr. Al-Alimi expressed Yemen’s appreciation for the warm welcome, excellent hospitality, and the superb organization demonstrated by Azerbaijan in hosting this significant and high-level international event, which reflects Azerbaijan’s role on the international stage and its clear commitment to climate issues. He congratulated President Ilham Aliyev on this great success that has impressed the world.

Dr. Abdullah Al-Alimi conveyed to His Excellency the Azerbaijani President greetings and congratulations from his brother, His Excellency Dr. Rashad Mohammed Al-Alimi, President of the Presidential Leadership Council, and from his fellow council members, emphasizing the depth of bilateral relations between the two countries and their eagerness to enhance cooperation in various fields.

During the meeting, they discussed the latest developments in the Yemeni crisis on both the political and economic fronts, highlighting the overall challenges Yemen faces due to the war ignited by the Houthi terrorist militias over the past years, their ongoing escalation in the Red Sea, and the threats this poses to regional and international security and peace.

The discussion also touched upon the increasing climate challenges Yemen faces due to climate change.
