Dr. Mohammed Al-Zaouri, Minister of Social Affairs and Labor, met on Wednesday in the temporary capital of Aden with Mr. Julien Harneis, the United Nations Resident Humanitarian Coordinator (OCHA) in Yemen. Their discussions focused on coordinating humanitarian action across governorates and the role of the United Nations in addressing humanitarian needs amidst declining funding.

Minister Al-Zaouri emphasized the crucial need to shift from relief-based interventions to sustainable development approaches. He stressed the importance of strengthening partnerships with all international organizations to alleviate suffering and address challenging economic conditions. Furthermore, he highlighted the significance of relocating the humanitarian affairs office from the temporary capital, Aden, to gain a firsthand understanding of the difficult economic realities on the ground.

Mr. Harneis commended the coordination efforts with the Yemeni government in alleviating humanitarian suffering, advocating for the rights of those in need, and promoting solutions for sustainable development. He expressed appreciation for the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor’s efforts in facilitating the work of the UN office in Aden to deliver developmental and humanitarian assistance to citizens in the south and liberated areas.
