The Minister of Public Health and Population, Dr. Qasem Buhaibah, met on Tuesday with the French Ambassador to Yemen, Catherine Corm, to discuss strengthening bilateral cooperation in the health field and the possibility of transferring French experiences in supporting and developing the health sector in several countries.

Minister Buhaibah reviewed the situation of the health sector and the challenges it faces in light of the decline in funding for the sector. He highlighted Yemen’s need for support to bridge the gap caused by the decline in donor support. He also praised the efforts of French friends in humanitarian interventions in the health sector through a number of organizations.

The Minister of Health commended France’s stance in support of the Presidential Leadership Council and the government, and its repeated condemnation of the Houthi terrorist militia’s targeting of Yemeni people’s interests and vital and economic facilities, as well as its threats to navigation and international trade. He reiterated the Yemeni government’s support for international efforts aimed at achieving a just, comprehensive, and sustainable peace.

For her part, the French Ambassador affirmed her country’s firm position in support of the Yemeni government and people, and the efforts of the Special Envoy of the United Nations Secretary-General to achieve peace in Yemen. She expressed her willingness to explore solutions for funding and support in the field of training and qualifying personnel in the medical referral program, ambulance services, mobile diagnostic clinics, and rehabilitation and training in areas affected by the conflict.
