On Wednesday, in Washington D.C., the Minister of Planning and International Cooperation, Acting Minister of Communications and Information Technology, Dr. Waed Abdullah Badhib, discussed with the U.S. Envoy to Yemen, Timothy Lenderking, ways to support the economy and development.

The meeting, held on the sidelines of the annual meetings of the World Bank Group, addressed several important economic and developmental issues, and the impact of reduced support from multilateral international institutions, particularly in the field of human capital development, which is considered a primary driver for development. They also discussed the significant role of U.S. funding in the International Finance Corporation under the World Bank and the importance of enhancing the role of Aden Port as a main gateway for receiving and distributing humanitarian aid to various Yemeni governorates, especially given the risks surrounding the port of Hodeida.

During the meeting, Minister Badhib reviewed the Yemeni government’s efforts in streamlining revenues and facing current economic challenges.

He also emphasized the importance of increasing humanitarian and developmental support from the U.S. government, stressing the necessity of relocating the headquarters of UN organizations to the interim capital, Aden.

Minister Badhib called for the need to pressure the Houthi terrorist militia to release humanitarian workers detained in their prisons for months, highlighting the importance of continued coordination and cooperation between both sides to support development and relief efforts in Yemen.
