Minister of Planning and International Cooperation, Dr. Waed Badhib, discussed on Sunday in the temporary capital, Aden, with the United Nations Humanitarian Coordinator for Yemen, Julien Harneis, ways to enhance cooperation and coordination between the government and the United Nations within the framework of humanitarian, relief, and development orientations and priorities.

The meeting, attended by Deputy Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Dr. Nizar Basohaib, and the ministry’s undersecretaries for the Projects Sector, Engineer Wazira al-Sharmani, the International Cooperation Sector, Omar Abdulaziz, and Assistant Undersecretary Mansour Zaid, addressed the United Nations’ efforts to support comprehensive humanitarian and development projects to achieve stability and improve basic services, ways to balance relief work and development, in addition to the situation of those abducted and detained UN workers by the Houthi militias, how to determine the number of displaced persons and mechanisms for tracking displacement, and ways to overcome difficulties to ensure the continued flow of aid from donors.

During the meeting, Minister Badhib praised the role of the United Nations and its ongoing efforts to deliver and facilitate aid across various humanitarian and relief fields, particularly given the crisis the government faces due to revenue stoppage resulting from the Houthi militias’ targeting of oil export ports and the economic war they wage against the government. He outlined the government’s priorities and main objectives related to major directions and plans to face all current challenges, working towards building broad partnerships with regional and international communities in financing development, reconstruction, and sectoral development, especially in agriculture and fisheries.

Minister Badhib reaffirmed the government’s readiness to provide all possible facilitations for the efforts and programs led by the UN and international organizations in Yemen.

For his part, the UN official stressed the importance of joint work between the United Nations and the legitimate government, continuing the partnership to enhance participation, support, and provide humanitarian and relief aid, and to push forward comprehensive development in Yemen. He noted the UN’s understanding of its role in facing challenges and mobilizing funds, pointing out the readiness of donors to support the government according to its priority needs, visions, and development plans submitted by vital sectors.
