His Excellency President Dr. Rashad Mohammed Al-Alimi, President of the Presidential Leadership Council, along with Maj. General Aidarous Al-Zubaidi and Sheikh Othman Mujali, members of the Council, participated in the opening session of the 79th UN General Assembly, which was launched on Tuesday, in New York City. The event was held in the presence of states’ leaders, heads of government, and representatives of regional and international organizations.

The Yemeni delegation to the current session includes Dr. Shaya Mohsin Al-Zindani, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Ambassador Abdullah Al-Sa’adi, Yemen’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, and Mr. Mohammed Al-Hadrami, Yemen’s Ambassador to the United States.

The president of the Presidential Leadership Council is to deliver the speech of the Republic of Yemen to the UN session later on Thursday. In his speech, the president will address latest developments in the national situation, the Council and government’s vision on prospects for a lasting and comprehensive peace based on nationally, regionally, and internationally agreed-upon references, in addition to the viewpoints on certain developments at both regional and international levels.

The opening session began with speeches from Mr. António Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations, and Mr. Philémon Yang, President of the current 79th Session of the UN General Assembly. This year’s session is held under the theme “Leaving No One Behind: Acting Together for the Advancement of Peace, Sustainable Development, and Human Dignity for Present and Future Generations.”
