His Excellency President Dr. Rashad Mohammed Al-Alimi, President of the Presidential Leadership Council, along with Major General Aidarous Al-Zubaidi and Sheikh Othman Majali, members of the Council, participated today, Sunday, in the high-level Summit of the Future sponsored by the United Nations, coinciding with the upcoming regular sessions of the UN General Assembly, to be officially launched next Tuesday.
The president of the Presidential Leadership Council will deliver a speech at the summit, in which he will review the significant challenges posed by the war of the Iran- backed Houthi terrorist militia. In addition, the speech will address the repercussions of these challenges at various levels, including defaulting in Yemen’s commitments related to Millennium Goals and Sustainable Development. Furthermore, the president will highlight priorities of the current phase, in light of these repercussions and the required regional and international support to strengthen Yemeni people’s resilience toward a better future.
The high-level UN event aims to form a new international consensus on how to create a better present while protecting the future. The event also seeks to accelerate efforts to meet existing international commitments and take tangible steps to address challenges and capitalize on emerging opportunities. This initiative arises in light of the escalating challenges of the 21st century and the accelerating changes facing humanity, including wars, conflicts, natural disasters, climate change, and accelerating technological advancements.
The summit’s activities will focus on five key areas: sustainable development and financing; peace and security; a digital future for all; youth and future generations; and global governance. Additionally, it will address other topics that intersect with the work of the United Nations, including human rights, gender equality, and the climate crisis.
At the conclusion of the summit, agreements will be issued and ratified by the participating countries, including the “Future Charter,” the “Global Digital Charter,” and the “Declaration for Future Generations.”
The “Future Charter” includes chapters on sustainable development and financing for development; international peace and security; science, technology, and innovation, as well as digital cooperation; youth and future generations; and global governance.
The “Global Digital Charter” aims to bridge digital divides and will be the first global agreement on artificial intelligence technologies. It will establish the foundation for creating an international platform centered around the United Nations, that brings all parties together. On the other hand, the “Declaration for Future Generations” will focus on obligating leaders to consider the future when making their decisions.
