President Dr. Rashad Mohammed Al-Alimi, President of Yemen’s Presidential Leadership Council, arrived in Egypt, on Sunday, upon the invitation of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, to participate in the opening of the 12th session of the World Urban Forum, (WUF 12) which kicks off tomorrow, Monday, under the auspices of the United Nations.
At Cairo Airport, the Yemeni President and his accompanying delegation were received by Mr. Mohammed Gebran, Egypt’s Minister of Labor, Mr. Khaled Mahfoudh Bahah, Yemen’s Ambassador to Egypt, Dr. Ali Moussa, Yemen’s Acting Permanent Representative to the Arab League and several members of the Yemeni Embassy and Permanent Mission.
The President is expected to address the forum, outlining Yemen’s efforts in local development and the structural and financial challenges imposed by the Houthi militia’s war, which has caused massive destruction to infrastructure and essential services, forcing millions of Yemenis to flee their homes.
The President will also touch upon the impacts of climate change and the vital role of regional allies and international partners in supporting reconstruction efforts, along with government plans for housing, services, and meeting necessary needs to mitigate climate effects and align with global sustainable development goals.
The Yemeni delegation to the forum includes Dr. Yahya Al-Shaibi, Director of the Presidential Office, Mr. Nasr Taha Mustafa, Advisor to the President of the Presidential Council, Dr. Shaya’ al-Zandani, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, and Engineer Salem Al-Harizi, Minister of Public Works and Roads.
This year’s forum, with around thirty thousand registered participants, is held under the theme “It All Starts at Home: Local Actions for Sustainable Cities and Communities”. The aim is to promote dialogue on how to make cities more inclusive, resilient, and sustainable by sharing experiences and ideas from various parties, including governments, civil society, the private sector, and experts across all fields.
