His Excellency President Dr. Rashad Mohammed Al-Alimi, President of the Presidential Leadership Council, along with Sheikh Othman Mujalli, the Council member, met with Mr. Sergey Lavrov, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, in New York, on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly meetings.
The meeting reviewed the longstanding bilateral relations between the two friendly countries, which date back nearly nine decades. Additionally, it discussed the promising opportunities to expand and strengthen these relations across various fields.
The meeting touched upon latest developments in the Yemeni situation and the commendable mediation efforts led by the brothers in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Sultanate of Oman to de-escalate and initiate a comprehensive political process under the auspices of the United Nations.
The President of the Presidential Leadership Council praised the distinguished bilateral relations between the Republic of Yemen and the Russian Federation. Moreover, He commended Russia’s firm position in the Security Council and all international forums in support of constitutional legitimacy and its national institutions.
For his part, the Russian Foreign Minister reaffirmed Moscow’s commitment to supporting efforts and initiatives aimed at stopping the war in Yemen and restoring the path to peace, stability, and development in the country.
Mr. Lavrov also commended the results of the recent communications between the two sides to revive the joint ministerial committees and strengthen diplomatic relations for the benefit of the two friendly countries and peoples.
The meeting was attended by Dr. Shaya Mohsin Al-Zindani, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Ambassador Abdullah Al-Sa’adi, Yemen’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations and Mr. Mohammed Al-Hadrami, Yemen’s Ambassador to the United States.
