His Excellency President Dr. Rashad Mohammed Al-Alimi, President of the Presidential Leadership Council, met on Monday, with the Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations, Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA), Dr. Rola Dashti. The meeting took place on the sidelines of the meetings of the seventy-ninth session of the United Nations General Assembly, which will be launched on Tuesday.
The meeting discussed ESCWA’s interventions in providing technical and advisory support to the Yemeni government. This support focuses on building institutional and human capacities, as well as developing a national vision for development recovery. The discussion also covered a strategy for social justice and women’s empowerment, along with efforts to enhance the resilience of vital sectors. These include the use of renewable energy and addressing climate change.
The President of the Presidential Leadership Council praised the distinguished efforts of the United Nations Commission in providing technical and advisory support, building the capacities of government institutions and assisting them in strategic planning by benefiting from pioneering international experiences and expertise in this field.
The UN official presented the programs and activities implemented by ESCWA in Yemen in cooperation with its partners in the United Nations, the International Monetary Fund Group, and the World Bank, to build the technical capacities of the Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation, the Central Statistical Organization, and a number of Yemeni state institutions. The programs covered also the fields of public finance, transportation, traffic safety, and sustainable development.
The meeting was attended by Mr. Marwan Al-Noman, the Deputy Permanent Representative of Yemen to the United Nations.
