His Excellency the President Dr. Rashad Mohammed Al-Alimi, President of the Presidential Leadership Council, received today, Wednesday, at Al-Ma’ashiq Palace in the interim capital of Aden, Mr. Gabriel Munuera Viñals, the Head of the European Union Delegation to Yemen, along with the ambassadors of France, Germany, the Netherlands, Romania, and Greece. The meeting was also attended by Engineer Haidar Abu Bakr Al-Attas, the advisor to the President of the Presidential Leadership Council.
During the meeting, the President briefed the European ambassadors on the latest developments on the national front and the efforts required to restore the peace process based on the agreed-upon national, regional, and international references, particularly UN Security Council Resolution 2216.
His Excellency reaffirmed the Presidential Leadership Council’s and the government’s commitment to Security Council Resolution 2216, considering it the optimal roadmap for achieving peace and stability in Yemen. In this context, he expressed full support for the efforts led by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to launch a comprehensive political process and improve the living conditions of the Yemeni people, which have been worsened by the Houthi terrorist attacks on oil facilities and international shipping routes.
The meeting also touched upon the path of economic and administrative reforms, the necessary European interventions to support Yemen’s economy, and the doubling of their humanitarian and developmental commitments in various fields.
For their part, the EU ambassadors reaffirmed their countries’ continued full support for the Presidential Leadership Council and the government and their intention to expand European diplomatic representation in the interim capital, Aden, while enhancing their developmental and humanitarian presence across all levels.
The European ambassadors praised the positive stance of the Presidential Leadership Council and the government and their constructive engagement with peace efforts and the de-escalation initiatives sponsored by the United Nations.
The meeting was attended by Dr. Shaya’ Al-Zindani, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, and Maj. General Saleh Al-Maqaleh, the Director of the President’s Office.
