On Thursday, His Excellency President Dr. Rashad Mohammed Al-Alimi, President of the Presidential Leadership Council, along with Sheikh Othman Mujalli, the Council member, received in New York His Excellency Mr. Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi, the Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC).

During the meeting, the President of the Presidential Leadership Council briefed the GCC Secretary-General on Yemeni developments and the obstacles posed by the Houthi terrorist militias to the mediation efforts led by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Sultanate of Oman to launch a comprehensive political process under the auspices of the United Nations.

His Excellency the President touched upon the economic and financial challenges facing the government due to the Houthi militias’ war, including their terrorist attacks on oil facilities and international shipping lanes. Additionally, he pointed out the regional and international pressures needed to alleviate the humanitarian suffering of the Yemeni people.

The President of the Presidential Leadership Council expressed, on behalf of himself, the council members, and the government, sincere thanks and appreciation for the GCC’s and its General Secretariat position in support of the Yemeni people and their constitutional legitimacy at various stages. This includes the GCC’s active role in addressing the threats facing Yemen, its identity, and its national economy, as well as its contribution to leading peace efforts in accordance with the agreed references, particularly Resolution 2216.

For his part, Mr. Jasem Albudaiwi, the GCC Secretary-General, affirmed the firm Gulf position in support of Yemeni people and their aspirations to restore stability and peace in Yemen.

Al-Budaiwi spoke about the ongoing preparations for holding an international conference on food security in Yemen. Moreover, he highlighted the list of development projects to be funded by the GCC in the upcoming period.

The meeting was attended by Dr. Shaya’ Mohsen Al-Zindani, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates.
