On Sunday, Sheikh Othman Mujalli, member of the Presidential Leadership Council, met with the French Ambassador to Yemen, Catherine Corm-Kammoun, to discuss bilateral relations between the two countries and the supportive French stance towards the Council in achieving peace and enhancing the economy.
Mujalli stated, “The tension in the region is caused by Iran, what happened in Gaza is a stain on the world’s conscience, and the destruction by the Houthis of Yemeni homes, mosques, schools, and hospitals mirrors the Israeli destruction in Gaza and Lebanon.”
He added, “The Yemeni public understands that the Houthis are exploiting the cause and the suffering of the people of Gaza to escape from fulfilling the demands of the people, paying employee salaries, continuing to plunder resources, imposing taxes, and using them to execute Iran’s destructive project in Yemen and the region, as well as continuing to carry out external projects, targeting maritime navigation, attacking ships, and terrorizing and starving the Yemeni people.”
He pointed out that Sana’a is experiencing a tragic and unprecedented state of misery due to repressive practices against citizens, the fight against legitimate traders, the suppression of media voices, and the detention of embassy and international organization staff, resulting in severe distress and need among the citizens while the Houthi traders and gangs live in luxury and extreme wealth.
He emphasized that the situation requires development, the eradication of terrorist groups, and correcting the anomaly caused by the international community by preventing the liberation of Hodeidah province and port. He stressed the necessity of supporting and enhancing the role of the Central Bank in the temporary capital Aden to overcome the financial crisis and the devaluation of the local currency, appreciating the clear French role that serves the interests, freedom, and dignity of the Yemeni society.
In turn, the French Ambassador confirmed that her country would continue working with international partners and coalition countries to support Yemen, the Leadership Council, and the government in overcoming economic and humanitarian challenges, contributing to peacebuilding, and supporting development in Yemen.
