On Sunday, Prime Minister Dr. Ahmed Awad bin Mubarak chaired a joint meeting at the Ministry of Public Works and Roads in the temporary capital Aden, attended by the leadership of the Ministry, the Road Maintenance Fund, and the Public Corporation for Roads and Bridges.

The meeting featured extensive discussions and an evaluation of the current status of procedures related to the operations of the Ministry and its affiliated institutions, mechanisms for enhancing coordination and integration, aiming to achieve and execute their legal, professional, and service tasks, the projects currently being implemented, as well as the regulations concerning truck weigh stations, their application across governorates, and suggestions for the optimal use of their revenues for road maintenance and preservation in coordination with local authorities.

Efforts to maintain and develop infrastructure in the road sector, urban development, and enhancing communication with Yemen’s partner countries, friendly nations, and donor organizations were also reviewed, aimed at supporting road projects, rehabilitation, maintenance, and urban development and housing.

Dr. Mohammed Thabit, Deputy Minister of Public Works and Roads, along with officials from the Road Maintenance Fund and the Public Corporation for Roads and Bridges, presented briefings on performance levels and the developmental plans being prepared. They also discussed stalled projects, reasons for their stalling, and the appropriate solutions and measures to ensure the continuity of road maintenance work in Aden and the liberated governorates, along with interventions needed to enhance performance.

The Prime Minister directed the reinforcement of integration, coordination, and teamwork, correcting any discrepancies to improve efficiency and effectiveness in performing the required tasks. He reiterated the emphasis on adopting transparency and governance in all technical, financial, and administrative operations and procedures, implementing reforms, and working closely with local authorities and international donors to identify and execute necessary interventions in projects.

Dr. Ahmed Awad bin Mubarak stressed the importance of creating an environment conducive to the success of any practices within the Ministry and its institutions, with transparency and governance at the forefront, correcting any deviations, and not accepting the status quo as inevitable. He emphasized activating the work of the Supreme Roads Council, ensuring regular meetings of the Road Maintenance Fund’s Board of Directors, and finding effective mechanisms for coordination and collaboration with local authorities.

The Prime Minister highlighted the significance of implementing weigh station regulations, adhering to regulatory laws, ensuring compliance with standards, and working in concert with local authorities to unify the management and revenue procedures of weigh stations, taking all measures to monitor truck weights and penalize violators to preserve road safety.
