Prime Minister Dr. Ahmed Awad bin Mubarak concluded on Thursday an official visit to the State of Qatar, during which he held talks with senior officials and participated in the celebration of the fifth anniversary of the United Nations General Assembly’s declaration of September 9th as the International Day to Protect Education from Attacks.

During the visit, the Prime Minister held a meeting with Her Highness Sheikha Moza bint Nasser, Chairperson of the Board of Directors of the Education Above All Foundation, to discuss several proposals for the Foundation’s interventions in Yemen to support the government’s efforts in the field of education, implement sustainable education projects at the national level, build specialized schools for people with disabilities and child victims of mines, and support teachers.

He also held bilateral talks with the Qatari Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, which dealt with the latest developments on the national and regional arenas, strengthening bilateral relations, and the role that Qatar can play in supporting the Yemeni government’s efforts to achieve economic stability.

Dr. Ahmed Awad bin Mubarak held discussions with the Minister of Finance, Ali bin Ahmed Al Kuwari, the Minister of State for International Cooperation at the Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Lolwah Al Khater, and the leadership of the Qatar Fund for Development, headed by the Acting Director General of the Fund, Sultan Al-Aseeri. The discussions focused on mechanisms for implementing the agreed-upon understandings to provide support to Yemen in priority areas, foremost of which is the electricity sector, cooperation to resume the work of development funds in Yemen, in addition to assistance in confronting the effects of climate change and cooperation with the government in social protection projects, supporting Khalifa Hospital in Turba, Taiz Governorate, completing the implementation of the Batis Road in Yafa, and considering the possibility of opening a direct air route between Aden and Doha airports.

During the visit, the Prime Minister discussed with the Director of the UNESCO Regional Office for the Gulf States and Yemen the ongoing coordination to hold an international conference to support education in Yemen, emphasizing support for plans to protect World Heritage sites from damage caused by climate change, and the necessary interventions to support the government’s efforts in the field of higher education.

The visit witnessed the signing of a memorandum of understanding for cooperation between Yemen and Qatar in the judicial and legal fields.

The Prime Minister described his visit to the sisterly State of Qatar as successful and fruitful in strengthening the fraternal relations between the two brotherly countries and peoples, pointing out that the visit aimed to reach understandings to develop frameworks for bilateral cooperation and create economic and investment partnerships to achieve common benefits.

He was accompanied during the visit by the Minister of Education, Tariq Al-Akbari, the Director of the Prime Minister’s Office, Eng. Anis Bahartha, and the Advisor to the Prime Minister, Ambassador Mujib Othman.
