Prime Minister Dr. Ahmed Awad bin Mubarak visited the main center of the Road and Bridges Maintenance Fund in the temporary capital Aden on Sunday to review the progress of work and the level of execution of the tasks entrusted to it in road network maintenance and rehabilitation.

The Prime Minister toured the Fund’s departments and listened to an explanation from Chairman of the Board Moeen Al-Maas and officials about the tasks undertaken by the Fund to help salvage the road network from the deteriorated state caused by the war initiated by the terrorist Houthi militias.

Dr. Ahmed Awad bin Mubarak learned about the responsibilities of various departments and sections within the Fund, their operational mechanisms, and the plans prepared to achieve the objectives, including maintaining the road network through all periodic, routine, and emergency maintenance works, as well as supervising the management and operation of weigh stations for both stationary and mobile transport vehicles on all roads.

He was also briefed on the challenges and difficulties facing the Fund’s operations, the coordination with local authorities, and how to enhance integration mechanisms in work and address any shortcomings urgently, in addition to the level of available international funding for road maintenance and the importance of working to enhance resources to fulfill its responsibilities optimally.

The Prime Minister emphasized the importance of applying principles of transparency and governance in all procedures and operations of the Road Maintenance Fund, focusing on revenue collection and different financial resources of the Fund, directing attention to priority interventions for road maintenance in coordination with local authorities, and implementing technical and financial oversight on maintenance works according to adopted specifications.

He stressed the preparation of a work plan for the maintenance and preservation of the road network in the liberated areas and reactivating branches in these areas, pointing out the importance of road maintenance in improving safety, reducing traffic accidents, and preserving these assets as national wealth.

During his visit to the Fund, Prime Minister Dr. Ahmed Awad bin Mubarak met with participants in a training program on the legal role of the Central Organization for Control and Accounting in protecting public funds. In his directive speech, he emphasized that combating corruption and protecting public funds are at the top of the government’s priorities, and the importance of everyone bearing their responsibilities according to their position and job level.

Dr. Ahmed Awad bin Mubarak highlighted the challenging economic conditions exacerbated by Houthi terrorist attacks on oil export facilities, which necessitates the implementation of financial and administrative reforms and actions against those manipulating public funds, noting that rationalizing expenditure and developing revenues are government priorities.

The Prime Minister clarified that the fight against corruption is everyone’s battle and stressed the need to transform it into a societal culture to protect the rights of citizens and future generations, urging trainees to apply the knowledge gained from the training program to their responsibility in protecting public funds.
