On Friday, Prime Minister Dr. Ahmed Awad bin Mubarak visited the home of veteran military leader Major General Ahmed Salem Obeid in the temporary capital, Aden, to check on his health. This visit comes as part of recognizing and appreciating national figures and their patriotic stances.

During the visit, the Prime Minister praised the struggle of Major General Obeid, considering him one of the leaders who pioneered the national liberation struggle. He highlighted Obeid’s early involvement in the resistance movement and the Liberation Army against British colonialism until achieving independence. The Prime Minister described Obeid as an encyclopedia of military science, culture, and literature, praising his contributions in various military, civilian, and diplomatic positions. He further acknowledged Obeid’s poetic contributions that inspired numerous artists.

Dr. Ahmed Awad bin Mubarak exchanged views with Major General Ahmed Salem Obeid on national issues and concerns, benefiting from his insights and advice on several matters. The Prime Minister highlighted Obeid’s well-known and honorable stances, for which he paid dearly, emphasizing his social standing and expertise needed in these exceptional circumstances. He also acknowledged Obeid’s role as one of the founders of the Association of Southern Military Retirees in 2007.

The Prime Minister pointed out that the government recently disbursed, despite challenging circumstances, the rightful dues of retirees and those forcibly discharged after the 1994 war. This action represents a well-deserved fulfillment of their rights after decades of marginalization and injustice they endured. He considered it a national and moral responsibility towards them.

In turn, Ahmed Salem Obeid expressed his appreciation for the Prime Minister’s visit and wished him success in his duties. He commended the Prime Minister’s positive initiatives and sincere endeavors to bring about change and alleviate citizens’ suffering, assuring him of their support through advice and counsel.
