On Friday, Sheikh Sultan Al-Barkani, Speaker of the House of Representatives, met with the French Ambassador to Yemen, Catherine Corm-Kammoun, to discuss developments in the national and regional situations, and the supportive role that both the regional and international communities should play in establishing peace and supporting stability in Yemen.

Both parties reviewed the bilateral relations between the two friendly countries, ways to enhance and develop these relations, and the importance of elevating the level of bilateral cooperation, especially in the economic and developmental sectors, and capacity building in vital sectors to enable the government to improve efficiency and performance levels in facilities and institutions, which contribute to alleviating the suffering of the Yemeni people under current conditions.

The Speaker of the House of Representatives also addressed the continued destructive path of the Houthi militias and their terrorist practices, which deepen the humanitarian crisis in the country through targeting vital facilities, private sector activities, public freedoms, and city sieges. This clearly demonstrates their entrenched hostility against our Yemeni people and disregard for the severity of the disaster that costs many lives daily. He emphasized that the state, represented by constitutional legitimacy which guarantees rights and freedoms, and the sovereignty of law enforcement based on justice and equal citizenship, is the only entity that will make Yemen safer, more stable, and more present in its regional and international environment, alongside support from brothers and friends. He expressed his hope for greater international economic support for the government and humanitarian response plans to achieve peace in Yemen.

In turn, the French Ambassador reaffirmed her country’s continued support for the efforts of constitutional legitimacy, reiterating France’s stance on the security, stability, and unity of Yemen and the resolution of the crisis, noting that this issue receives the highest attention in the French administration. She mentioned that the recent visit of EU ambassadors to the temporary capital Aden and the presentation of their credentials by several of them is an indicator that confirms the continuation of this support and joint cooperation despite all challenges.

The French Ambassador also emphasized the importance of the role of the House of Representatives, noting that these meetings and dialogues come within the framework of joint efforts to achieve peace and stability in Yemen.
