On Thursday, at the sidelines of the International Climate Summit (COP29) in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, Dr. Abdullah Al-Alimi, a member of the Presidential Leadership Council, discussed with the British Development Minister, Anneliese Dodds, ways to enhance bilateral cooperation and provide support to the government and its efforts in fulfilling obligations to citizens and implementing economic reforms.

Dr. Al-Alimi briefed the British Minister on the latest updates regarding the political process in Yemen and the impact of regional and international developments on efforts to establish peace in Yemen, emphasizing the steadfast position of the Yemeni government in supporting efforts for comprehensive, fair, and lasting peace.

The member of the Leadership Council also addressed the terrorist activities carried out by the Houthi militia, supported by the Iranian regime, targeting maritime routes and international shipping lanes in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden, and the resultant threat to national, regional, and international security.

Dr. Al-Alimi praised the historical bilateral relations between the two friendly countries, pointing to the shared interests that bind both nations and their ongoing efforts to maintain security and stability in the region, stressing the importance of continuing support for the Yemeni government, especially under the challenging economic conditions resulting from the halt in oil exports due to Houthi terrorist attacks on oil facilities and infrastructure.

Both sides affirmed the importance of continued cooperation between the two countries to support stability in Yemen, enhance efforts to improve humanitarian and economic conditions amidst current challenges, and work on forming a joint working group to explore cooperation in various fields and aspects, formulating these into a joint action plan.

On her part, the British Minister reiterated her country’s support for the Yemeni government and its efforts towards achieving lasting and comprehensive peace, implementing economic reforms, and combating corruption, underscoring her country’s commitment to bolstering support for the Yemeni government to expand the scope of basic services and enhance resilience against humanitarian challenges.
