The Yemeni government announced, on Thursday, on the sidelines of the Conference of the Parties (COP29) held in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, the launch of the National Climate Finance Program for the period 2025-2030, which aims to enhance the country’s ability to adapt to the increasing climate challenges.

Dr. Abdullah Al-Alimi, a member of the Presidential Leadership Council, confirmed in his speech during a special event within the framework of the Climate Conference, the commitment of the political leadership and the government to achieve climate objectives despite the significant challenges facing Yemen.

Al-Alimi explained that while climate change is a global challenge, it poses a greater threat to Yemen, where the population suffers from the repercussions of a war ignited by the Houthi terrorist militias supported by the Iranian regime, leading to the deterioration of vital resources and increasing the country’s vulnerability to the effects of climate change. He cited examples of heavy rainfall and floods that affected areas in the governorates of Hodeidah, Al-Mahwit, and Taiz, in addition to cyclones hitting the eastern coast.

Dr. Al-Alimi expressed his gratitude to the team working on the program, representing the Ministry of Water and Environment, related ministries, and international, regional, and local partners, especially the Green Climate Fund, which contributed to financing the preparation of this ambitious program.
