Prime Minister Dr. Ahmed Awad bin Mubarak affirmed that the current regional and international developments necessitate greater support from the international community for the government to achieve the desired transformation that all Yemenis aspire for, in completing the restoration of state institutions and ending the coup by the Houthi militias backed by the Iranian regime.

During his meeting on Tuesday in the interim capital Aden with the Norwegian Special Envoy to Yemen, Heidi Johansen, the Prime Minister praised the level of Yemeni-Norwegian relations and the support Norway provides for peace efforts and the reform processes implemented by the government in various fields.

The meeting touched on developments on the regional and international scene, including the situation in Palestinian territories and Lebanon, efforts aimed at achieving peace in Yemen, and the international pressure needed to push the Houthi militias towards prioritizing the interests of the Yemeni people.

Dr. Ahmed Awad bin Mubarak provided the Norwegian envoy with a comprehensive overview of the developments on the local front, the reforms being implemented by the government in light of key priorities, and the efforts made with support from Yemen’s partners, foremost among them the countries of the Coalition to Support Legitimacy led by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, to halt the decline in the national currency’s exchange rate and its significant impact on the livelihoods of citizens. He pointed out that maintaining the national currency is a top priority due to its direct link to the livelihood and lives of citizens, and what the government and the Presidential Leadership Council are doing to seriously address this, along with the required international support in this regard.

The Prime Minister highlighted that the difficult economic situation the country is experiencing due to the economic war waged by the Houthi militia on the Yemeni people, and the drop in currency value during this period is the most critical issue the government is seeking to resolve and find urgent solutions for.

In turn, the Norwegian envoy confirmed her country’s full support for the government in implementing reforms and the efforts it is making to alleviate human suffering, noting that supporting Yemen is among Norway’s priorities, with keenness to coordinate with the government on aspects of needed support, in addition to pushing forward the peace process.
