His Excellency Dr. Ahmed Awad bin Mubarak, Prime Minister of Yemen, affirmed Yemen’s aspiration for enhanced cooperation with the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in various areas. These include supporting education, preserving archaeological sites, building human capacities, and other fields of collaboration.

This came during a reception held by the Prime Minister on Tuesday at his residence in Doha, Qatar, for a UNESCO delegation headed by Mr. Salah Khaled, Director of the Regional Office for the Gulf States and Yemen.

Discussions during the meeting revolved around UNESCO’s sectoral plan and its priorities for the upcoming phase in Yemen, emphasizing coordination with the government to identify priority areas.

Furthermore, the meeting touched upon ways to strengthen cooperation between Yemen and UNESCO. This included building partnerships to promote sustainable development in the culture, heritage, and education sectors, as well as coordinating the upcoming international conference to support education in Yemen. Additionally, they discussed developing a strategy for higher and technical education and plans to protect World Heritage sites from damage caused by climate change.

The Prime Minister praised UNESCO’s efforts and initiatives in Yemen and expressed his aspiration for further cooperation. He highlighted the importance of contributing to vocational training for workers and developing the education sector. He also pointed out the role of the Academic Accreditation Council and the Supreme Medical Council in adopting professional standards to improve performance and UNESCO’s potential role in supporting their endeavors in this regard.

For his part, the Director of the UNESCO Regional Office emphasized the organization’s commitment to continued cooperation with the Yemeni government. He stressed the importance of identifying priorities and developing plans to enhance joint efforts.

The meeting was attended by Tariq Al-Akbari, Minister of Education; Rajih Badi, Ambassador of Yemen to the State of Qatar; and Mujib Othman, Advisor to the Prime Minister.
