The Prime Minister, Dr. Ahmed Awad bin Mubarak, met on Sunday, at his residence in the Qatari capital, Doha, with the leadership of the Qatar Fund for Development, headed by the Acting Director General of the Fund, Sultan Al-Asiri.

During the meeting, they discussed areas of cooperation with the Qatar Fund for Development in the development, service, and humanitarian aspects, and the mechanisms for qualitative interventions required during the coming period, in line with the government’s priorities, especially in the field of electricity, in addition to the projects being implemented, and coordination mechanisms with the government to identify priority sectoral needs for urgent support, including support for climate change adaptation programs.

The Prime Minister was briefed by the Director General of the Qatar Fund for Development on the Fund’s plans in identifying priority support areas in Yemen and giving special attention to supporting efforts to increase electricity production capacity by relying on less expensive alternatives.

Dr. Ahmed Awad bin Mubarak praised the efforts and keenness shown by the Qatar Fund for Development to implement a number of projects in priority areas that have a direct impact on supporting the government’s efforts to improve the living conditions of citizens.

The Prime Minister touched on the government’s orientation to activate and benefit from promising economic sectors and mineral resources to build investment partnerships that achieve added value to improve the economic situation.

The meeting was attended by the Yemeni Ambassador to the State of Qatar, Rajeh Badi, the Director of the Prime Minister’s Office, Engineer Anis Baharitha, and the Advisor to the Prime Minister, Ambassador Mujib Othman.

His Excellency President Dr. Rashad Mohammed Al-Alimi, President of the Presidential Leadership Council, announced, on Sunday, the start of the necessary procedures to establish two power plants in Hadhramaut Governorate with a capacity of 100 megawatts.

The President of the Leadership Council said in a speech delivered at the Police College headquarters in the presence of the Council members Dr. Abdullah Al-Alimi and Sheikh Othman Mujli, that the project, which will be funded and shared by the government and the local authority, includes the establishment of a power plant in Hadhramaut Coast and another in the valley with a capacity of 50 megawatts for each.

Before leaving Mukalla with the two Council members today, Sunday, His Excellency the President praised the achievements made by the people of Hadhramaut, despite the difficult financial conditions exacerbated by the terrorist attacks of the Houthi militias supported by the Iranian regime on oil facilities, shipping vessels, and international shipping lines.

His Excellency the President called on the people of Hadhramaut and their political, civil, and societal components to enhance these achievements with more cohesion and unification for the good, growth of the governorate, and its stability as a  bridge for development, and the restoration of state institutions.

The President of the Leadership Council confirmed that the Council and the government understand the legitimate demands of the people of Hadhramaut, and work to adopt and implement them in partnership with all state institutions.

In this context, His Excellency announced the Leadership Council’s intention to form a committee from various concerned parties to go to Hadhramaut Governorate, address its service and development priorities, and work to achieve the aspirations of its people in various fields.

Dr. Ahmed Awad bin Mubarak, Prime Minister of Yemen, conducted a field visit on Monday to the 120 MW solar power plant in the Al-Buraiqeh district of the interim capital, Aden. The plant is expected to be operational within the next few days following the completion of final testing.

During his visit, the Prime Minister was briefed on the components of the plant, which was constructed on an area of 1.6 million square meters and funded by the United Arab Emirates to support Yemen’s electricity generation capacity. Officials confirmed that the project is 100% complete and has entered the final testing and trial operation phase before officially commencing service and delivering its full 120 MW capacity to the grid.

The Prime Minister received a detailed explanation of the project’s implementation phases, which included the installation of over 211,000 solar panels, more than 900 kilometers of electrical cables, and the construction of 43,000 foundation points and the mounting structure. The project also encompasses 12 substations, 9 kilometers of high-voltage lines, and a main transforming station.

Dr. Bin Mubarak chaired a meeting with the project’s implementing company, attended by the Minister of Electricity and Energy, Mane Bin Yameen, the Director of the Prime Minister’s Office, Eng. Anis Bahartha, and the Prime Minister’s Advisor, Ambassador Mujib Othman. He expressed his gratitude for the efforts exerted in implementing this vital project, considered the first and largest strategic project for generating electricity through clean and renewable energy in Yemen.

The Prime Minister praised the UAE’s support for this project, highlighting its role in reducing electricity generation costs and serving as a success story to be replicated in other governorates. He emphasized the government’s commitment to encouraging partnerships with countries and donor organizations to develop effective and strategic solutions for increasing power generation capacity through renewable energy and promoting its use.

Furthermore, he stressed the importance of leveraging this project’s success as a launching pad for a comprehensive vision to find sustainable solutions for the electricity sector and alleviate the suffering of citizens. He also highlighted the ongoing efforts to establish a training and qualification institute for Yemeni cadres in the field of renewable energy, expressing his pride in the fact that the plant’s operation and maintenance will be fully managed by a 100% Yemeni workforce.

Hadramout Governor, Mabkhout bin Madi, and Minister of Oil and Minerals, Dr. Saeed al-Shamasi, reviewed the workflow at the Masila Petroleum Exploration and Production Company (PetroMasila), the company operating in the field of oil and gas exploration and production in Hadramout Governorate.

The Governor and the Minister discussed with the company’s leadership ways to enhance the Wadi electricity capacity by increasing production from the Wadi Hadramout gas-fired power plant. This aims to reduce power outage hours for citizens and improve the electricity generation service for Wadi Hadramout. They also addressed a number of issues related to the oil sector’s operations in Hadramout, ways to address them, and means to enhance the company’s capabilities.

The Minister of Oil and Minerals affirmed the ministry’s support for PetroMasila’s efforts, indicating that the ministry is working to enhance investments in the oil and gas sector in Yemen, contributing to the improvement of the national economy.

Governor Bin Madi emphasized the local authority’s keenness to provide all necessary facilities to the company, contributing to its continued vital role in supporting development in the governorate. He praised PetroMasila’s role in supporting the national economy and strengthening the energy infrastructure in Hadramout.

The Deputy Governor of Hadramout Governorate for Valley and Desert Affairs, Amer al-Amri, reviewed the electricity situation in the Wadi and the suffering of citizens during the summer, stressing the need for urgent interventions to improve the service and reduce power outages for citizens.
