Minister of Public Health and Population, Dr. Qassem Buhaibeh, participated on Monday in the first Arab conference on the role of Arab health competencies abroad in supporting health systems in Arab countries, held in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.

The conference’s statement emphasized the importance of developing a strategy to leverage these competencies to support health sectors in Arab countries, activate their role, and create a conducive environment to unleash their potential in serving their home countries. It called for the establishment of a database for Arab health competencies abroad, which would enhance their role in implementing Arab and regional programs and strategies, benefit from their expertise in various health fields, and support Arab health systems, especially in areas like humanitarian relief, emergency medicine, training, public health, and telemedicine.

The statement pointed out that these competencies represent a highly valuable human resource and an important opportunity that requires a comprehensive vision and a practical framework to enable positive interaction with them, considering them a fundamental pillar for health systems. It highlighted that the migration of health workers is one of the prominent topics on the global health agenda, given the increasing phenomenon amidst a global shortage and future needs to meet the requirements of universal health coverage and sustainable development goals.

The declaration stressed the importance of continuing national, Arab, regional, and international efforts to address and analyze the phenomenon of health worker migration, proposing solutions to mitigate its negative impact on Arab health systems and to benefit the health security in the Arab region.

The conference, attended by various organizations and donors, discusses the efforts of humanitarian organizations and donors in health interventions in countries suffering from conflicts, and the role of these organizations in humanitarian and developmental interventions.

During the conference, the Minister of Health reviewed the health situation in Yemen and the efforts exerted for recovery in the health sector, along with the necessary needs from various parties, including regional and international organizations and donors.
