Member of the Presidential Leadership Council, Major General Aidaroos Qassem Al-Zubaidi, discussed on Wednesday with the US Ambassador to Yemen, Steven Fagin, the latest political and security developments in our country.

During a visual call between the two sides, they discussed the escalation of the terrorist Houthi militia’s hostile acts in international shipping lanes in the Red Sea, Bab al-Mandab, and the Gulf of Aden, and ways to unify efforts and coordinate local and regional stances to confront the arrogance of these militias and contain the threats resulting from their continuous terrorism on land and sea.

The two sides also discussed areas of enhancing security cooperation between the two countries to ensure the success of efforts to deter the terrorist behavior practiced by the Houthi militia through air strikes, preventing the arrival of smuggled weapons to the militias from Iran, and drying up the funding sources that the militias rely on to finance their hostile acts.

The two sides affirmed the importance of concerted efforts to support and strengthen the internationally recognized government, and support its efforts to find immediate solutions to stop the economic collapse by enhancing resources and strengthening the support provided by brotherly and friendly countries and employing it in development fields.

On Saturday, Defense Minister Lieutenant General Mohsen Al-Daeri met separately with the Acting Chinese Ambassador to Yemen, Zhao Cheng, and the Japanese Military Attaché to Yemen, Soshiro Shimamura.

During the meeting, they discussed the latest developments in Yemen amid the continued targeting of commercial ships and international shipping routes in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden by the Houthi terrorist militias, and the harm this causes to the global economy and the threat it poses to international security and peace.

Lieutenant General Al-Daeri emphasized that stability in the region and ensuring freedom of maritime navigation can only be achieved by supporting the government and the armed forces to impose control over the entire national territory. He clarified that peace is not in the vocabulary of the Houthi terrorist militia, which is accustomed to breaking covenants and reneging on agreements.

Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Dr. Shaya’ Al-Zindani emphasized the necessity of reconsidering the approach to dealing with the threats posed by the Houthi terrorist militias to international waterways through empowering and supporting the Yemeni government politically, economically, and militarily to build and strengthen the capabilities of specialized state institutions. This support aims to ensure the security of international passages sustainably and for Yemen to be an active partner in maintaining regional security.

During his participation in a roundtable discussion on the political and military dimensions of the Houthis in Yemen as a threat to regional security, held on Wednesday in New York, he stressed the need to review the reasons behind the failure to resolve the Yemeni issue and assess the current situation. He highlighted the consequences of attacks in the Red Sea and Bab al-Mandab on the prospects for a political solution in Yemen, in addition to their devastating environmental impact and serious economic repercussions for Yemen and countries in the region.

Minister Al-Zindani warned of the dangers of complacency or deferring the resolution of the Yemeni issue amidst economic and political challenges, and the continued flow of weapons and funds to the Houthis. He reiterated the importance of implementing UN resolutions concerning Yemen, particularly Resolution 2216, as an appropriate approach to address the Yemeni crisis.
