On Wednesday, the National Committee for Investigating Allegations of Human Rights Violations held a meeting in the temporary capital, Aden, with the Norwegian Special Envoy for Yemen, Heidi Johansen, to discuss the human rights situation in Yemen and future visions for its improvement.

The meeting, which included the Committee’s Vice Chairman Judge Hussein Al-Mashdali, and committee members Judge Sabah Alwani, Judge Ishraq Al-Muqtari, along with Lind Mann, Senior Adviser at the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation, and Arnie Volliras, head of the humanitarian policy section at the Norwegian Foreign Ministry, discussed the steps the Committee has taken in the realm of accountability with conflict parties, mechanisms for relations with entities working on accountability and law enforcement, and opportunities for future cooperation between the Committee and the Norwegian Foreign Ministry aimed at strengthening humanitarian work and achieving victim-centered justice.

Judge Al-Mashdali reviewed the investigation mechanisms followed by the National Committee in its work, which are aligned with international human rights standards, and highlighted the key outputs and results achieved since its inception up to the present.

For her part, the Norwegian Envoy expressed her satisfaction with the significant efforts made by the Committee and its field team, and the preservation of its independence, especially under current challenges. She commended the courage shown by the Committee in pursuing accuracy in documentation, affirming the Norwegian Foreign Ministry’s interest in following the Committee’s efforts and reports.
