The Presidential Leadership Council held a meeting on Sunday, May 12, 2024, chaired by His Excellency President Dr. Rashad Muhammad Al-Alimi, and attended by its members Aidarous Al-Zubaidi, Abdul-Rahman Al-Mahrami, Uthman Mujalli, and via video conference Sultan Al-Arada, Dr. Abdallah Al-Alimi, and Faraj Al-Bahsani, to discuss many important files and issues, at the top of which is the government’s performance during the past period.
The meeting touched on the government’s work program for the next stage, and the prospects for strengthening the national economy and combating corruption. The members of the Presidential Leadership Council listened to a comprehensive briefing from the Prime Minister, Dr. Ahmad Awadh bin Mubarak, which dealt with various aspects of government performance during the past period, financial and economic indicators, plans and programs that were implemented, and the challenges faced by the government.
During the meeting, the Prime Minister revealed a general framework for the government’s work program for the next stage, which included plans to combat corruption, rationalize spending, improve the efficiency of revenue agencies, opportunities to enhance monetary and financial stability, develop public resources, and raise the efficiency of revenue agencies at the central and local levels, and reorganize the relationship with local authorities and the donor community. The Presidential Leadership Council affirmed its full support for the government in implementing its work program and directed the need to overcome all difficulties, provide the necessary capabilities to ensure its success and facilitate the exercise of its powers with full powers to alleviate human suffering, achieve the aspirations of the Yemeni people for security and stability, and restore state institutions. The Council also appreciated the government’s efforts in reducing the general budget deficit, the state’s continued fulfillment of its obligations, and moving forward with comprehensive reforms.
In this context, the Council praised the support of the brothers in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates for the national economy, and basic services, which helped in facing the great financial pressures imposed by the Houthi attacks on oil facilities and international navigation lines.
The meeting also renewed the commitment of the Presidential Leadership Council and the government to the firm Yemeni position supporting the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, and the establishment of their independent national state with full sovereignty, welcoming the decision of the United Nations General Assembly, which approved by an overwhelming majority the eligibility of the State of Palestine for full membership in the international organization. The focus of the Presidential Leadership Council on the economic file and combating corruption indicates its full awareness of the crucial importance of these two files in achieving stability and development in Yemen, through supporting the government and enhancing its capabilities to face the current challenges.
