On Wednesday, Prime Minister Dr. Ahmed Awad bin Mubarak received a delegation from the Russian Federation currently visiting Aden, led by Alexander Kinshchak, Director of the Middle East and North Africa Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The meeting reviewed the bilateral relations between the two friendly countries, the available fields for their development and enhancement in light of recent understandings, as well as the latest developments in Yemen, the ongoing Israeli aggression against Palestine and Lebanon, the developments in the Red Sea due to Houthi terrorist attacks on commercial ships and international navigation, and the Russian efforts needed to contain their devastating repercussions on living conditions and international peace and security.
The Prime Minister was briefed on the outcomes of recent visits and communications between both sides to activate the work of joint committees and enhance relations in promising sectors, serving the mutual interests of both countries and peoples, in addition to arrangements for reopening the Russian Embassy in Aden.
During the meeting, the Prime Minister praised the historical bilateral relations with Russia, expressing eagerness to elevate these relations to broader horizons of development and fruitful coordination across various fields. He highlighted Moscow’s stance as a permanent member of the Security Council, in support of the Yemeni people and their constitutional legitimacy, and welcomed the resumption of the Russian Embassy’s work from the temporary capital, Aden.
Dr. Ahmed Awad bin Mubarak outlined the government’s priorities and the reforms it is implementing with support from the Presidential Leadership Council, emphasizing the role expected from Russian friends in this aspect. He pointed out opportunities to elevate bilateral cooperation in electricity, oil, agriculture, and fisheries, stressing the importance of accelerating the implementation of mutual agreements reached.
For its part, the Russian delegation discussed the tangible progress in activating and expanding areas of joint cooperation based on the outcomes of the Prime Minister’s visit to Moscow, subsequent ministerial visits, and the signing of a memorandum of understanding for bilateral cooperation, along with ongoing preparations for convening the joint committee. The delegation affirmed Russia’s support for the Yemeni government and efforts aimed at stopping the war and restoring peace and stability in Yemen.
